Connected World Conference 2013
Big Data

Hyatt Regency Santa Clara
Santa Clara Convention Center

M2M App Challenge: June 7-9, 2013
Conference and Exhibits: June 10-13, 2013

The 2013 Connected World Conference was kicked off with the Second Annual M2M App Challenge. This event was sponsored by OSIsoft, Aeris Communications, esri, ILS Technology, and ioBridge, the technical supporters included Lit San Leandro, U.S. Dept. of Energy, and Silicon Valley Power. This 36-hour challenge was open to coders, developers, or anyone with a unique idea to develop a next-generation app focused on automotive, healthcare, energy, and more. There were five platforms on which to code and first, second, and third place winners were chosen on each platform. Check out the Aug/Sept 2013 issue to see who won.

The Connected World Conference opened on Monday, June 10 with an optional golf outing for attendees, followed by an evening networking cocktail reception sponsorship by ILS Technology, a broadcast of The Peggy Smedley Show, and the second annual Gadget Giveaway.

Sessions ran the next two days exploring how Big Data may soon be able to anticipate when an individual might suffer a heart attack; it might even one day find a cure for cancer. Speakers discussed way to improve energy efficiency, curtail fuel consumptions, track mapping and routing, and improve vehicle maintenance applications, amongst a host of other connected car ideas.

Our Reinventing Innovation mission for the event made for an exciting show floor, highlighted by connected cars, mobile apps, GPS devices, and consumer gadgets, just to name a few.

Additional special highlights of the conference included:

  • A special by-invite only CIO breakfast sponsored by MindTree
  • A live tweet chat with Mike Tinskey, Global Director of Vehicle Electrification, Ford Motor Co. that discussed Ford’s line of energy-efficient vehicles
  • The event closed with the annual Connected World Awards Gala (formerly known as the Value Chain Awards) where the most successful corporate adopters of M2M technology and connected devices, as well as their solutions providers, were honored. The Awards Gala was sponsored by Eurotech, ILS Technology, RacoWireless, Sprint, Telit Wireless Solutions, ThingWorx, T-Mobile, Vodafone, and the Women of M2M.
