New certification for the MultiConnect mDot, a LPWAN (low-power wide-area network) RF (radio-frequency) module from Multi-Tech Systems, www.multitech.com, ensures the device is LoRaWAN-ready as determined by the LoRa Alliance, www.lora-alliance.org.
MultiTech is a global manufacturer of M2M and IoT (Internet of Things) devices that has made several LoRaWAN-related announcements since the beginning of 2016. LoRa is a wireless technology developed to enable low data rate communications over long distances. By complying with LoRaWAN specifications, MultiTech says its mDot device is fully and officially compatible with LoRaWAN networks.
MultiConnect mDots are radios that leverage new Semtech LoRa LPWA RF modulation. LPWA technologies benefit customers because they complement existing cellular mobile networks and short-range technologies, enabling lower costs and better power consumption characteristics, according to the LoRa Alliance. The mDot devices also benefit customers by bringing intelligence and reduced complexity to the edge of the network.
David Smith, senior vice president of engineering and innovation at MultiTech, says the RF module was already compliant with the LoRaWAN specification, but introducing a more formal certification “further reinforces the product’s excellence and foothold in the industry.”
