Project Description

Ultra-clear, ultra-crisp picture. When it came down to selecting top gifts in TV this year, Samsung’s reputation for screen quality was a deciding factor. Samsung’s LED 8000 Series Smart TVs feature full-HD 1080p displays in both 2D and 3D (the latter requires 3D glasses). The company has broken new ground in the space by offering what it calls “smart interaction.” For instance, its gesture-control functionality lets you interact with the TV using hand motions, such as a swipe for navigation and a “grab” to select.

We love the intuitive Smart Touch Remote Control (included) that, among other functions, lets you control the TV with just your voice. Thanks to built-in Wi-Fi, you can access more than 1,400 Samsung Smart TV apps. A free Smart View app for Samsung smartphones and Galaxy tablets turns your mobile device into a Wi-Fi remote, and a built-in camera lets you use apps like Skype. Samsung says its Smart TVs will even recognize your face and automatically log you into your personal profile.

Internet-connected TV is the way of the future. Beginning next year, Samsung will offer a *Smart Evolution Kit that will allow you to upgrade your TV every year, bringing its performance and functionality up to par without replacing the set. Thanks to a feature called AllShare Play, you can wirelessly share content among several Samsung devices, bringing the smart TV into a broader ecosystem of connected devices. (Starting at $2,139.99)

*Smart Evolution Kit sold separately; not available for all models.
