Rapid connectivity via AV (autonomous vehicles) and the immense data transfer of speeds that will be experienced by 5G—unlike anything we’ve seen before—will change our lifestyles and our businesses. We will see people eating, sleeping, playing Fortnite, and even having sex (although it’s still illegal) in their EVs (electric vehicles). The proliferation of 5G—otherwise known as the fifth generation—will enable us to visualize, entertain, and augment new experiences in the not-so distance future through entirely new form factors changing the way we see, hear, and communicate. In fact, a new GSMA report estimates there will be 1.4 billion global 5G connections by 2025 accounting for more than 15% of the mobile market. And it goes without saying that at MWC (Mobile World Congress) 5G was all the buzz.
So as markets and industries rapidly evolve, some play catch-up and others will become more complex and even sophisticated adopting all these technologies that are changing the way we work, and in some cases play. No longer is it a matter of will it work or should we rely on it, but it’s all about determining which technology is the most convenient to depend on. To remain effective, every company, in every industry, must adopt—plain and simple.
What this means is that each company must be ready to adopt the right technologies at the right time for exactly the right purposes. Technology has already improved so many processes and efficiencies, companies need to be ready to be make the right strategic moves.
It’s a matter of looking at AI (artificial intelligence) and ML (machine learning) to further the mission to gather perspicacity and to make better decisions about what is happening in your day-to-day operations.
Don’t get me wrong, many companies—small and large—are still in the learning stages. It is believed by the time every firm continues the AI, ML, and blockchain journey every one of these technologies will have the remarkable potential to create a new world that’s unrecognizable to the average person today. The main objective is to still move forward to capture the right insights and the right data to make the right decisions. But as I like to say, we are making transformational moves that are truly leading to positive disruption.
But I would be completely remiss if I did not say how impressive the future will be with 5G. If it delivers on its promise, we are talking about 20 times the speeds, if not more, than 4G. Just imagine what can be achieved in manufacturing, construction, retail, agriculture, transportation, smart cities. With higher speeds and lower latency, 5G will jumpstart mining, farming, public transit, energy, building, infrastructure, so much more. The race for 5G is moving fast, so it’s time to hunker down and focus on separating the noise from the hype.
