Summer is coming, and things are heating up here in the United States. This summer, we will be embarking on a “hot” technology series, looking at one of the hottest, most talked about technologies of 2025: AI (artificial intelligence). You have likely heard some of the predictions. Gen AI will likely pass $1 trillion by 2028, which represents a more than 20-fold increase in the next three years.

However, this is all easier said than done. New technologies often disrupt business flow, as roadblocks and new risks arise. Alignment becomes key to ensure the objectives of the business, the technology opportunities, and the skillsets of the workers all align to meet specific business goals.

From gen AI to agentic AI, there are many iterations that will impact business—and we will narrow in specifically for the construction industry. We’ll also unpack some of the biggest trends, opportunities, applications, and strategies. In order to unpack this in depth, we will embark on a three-phase blog series this summer, as the use of AI heats up in the construction industry.

To start, the first phase of the series will focus on opportunities for AI in the lifecycle of a construction project—from design, to build, to operate. Here at Constructech, we have long talked about the value that data brings to the project, sharing how the data leveraged in the design phase could theoretically travel to the construction phase and then into operations.

It is the BIM (building information modeling) conversation that we have been having for decades. Easily sharing data across the entire project and across various project team members opens up new opportunities for construction to improve project efficiency, heighten collaboration, and ultimately lead to a better bottomline. Now imagine the opportunities gen AI could potentially unlock throughout the lifecycle. Again, this is much easier said than done.

In the second phase of the blog series, we will turn our attention to specific applications where gen AI could bring new benefits to the construction industry specifically. Think estimating, accounting, project management, collaboration, the jobsite, and more.

Finally, in the third phase, we will unpack strategies for success. Leveraging gen AI is easier said than done. We must consider people, process, and technology and how all the puzzle pieces will ultimately fit together.

Our hope is this series will provide a clear roadmap forward for how the construction industry can better leverage technology and align it with the needs of the business. We’ll consider the steps your company needs to take on this gen AI journey.

Gen AI is certainly here, bringing new opportunities, altering existing applications, and driving success for the future. Are you ready? If you have thoughts you would like to share, please reach out to us! We are always better when we are collaborating together.Want to tweet about this article?
