Fact of the Week: Research says physical AI in the millions

Get ready. Physical AI (artificial intelligence) is coming—and in some cases it is already here. Physical AI refers to systems like robots, autonomous vehicles, and drones that can perceive, decide, and act within their environments. While still in early stages, this category is rapidly gaining momentum as advances in generative AI, sensors, and edge computing accelerate.

Counterpoint Research suggests cumulative shipments for physical AI devices will look like this:

    Global Market:

    • 145 million units between 2025–2035
    • Includes robots, autonomous vehicles, and drones
    • Represents a major growth phase for embodied AI technologies

    Breakdown by device type:

    • Roughly 59 million drones
    • About 48 million robots
    • Some 38 million autonomous vehicles

Counterpoint Research is of the opinion the physical AI market is entering a rapid growth phase, with expansion driven by advancements in generative AI and computer vision, edge computing and sensor technologies, increasing use cases across logistics, healthcare, and manufacturing, and growth in autonomous mobility and robotics ecosystems.

The value here is physical AI represents the next evolution of artificial intelligence—moving beyond digital tasks into real-world interaction.

These technologies can automate complex physical processes, improve efficiency across industries, and unlock entirely new applications, from warehouse robotics to self-driving transportation. It’s a major shift that will be worth watching closely in the years ahead. Do you see physical AI transforming our world in a bigger and even larger way? #factoftheweek
