Homebuilding Technology on the Rise in 2022

The use of construction technology is on the rise in homebuilding specifically, according to a new study. For construction professionals, this will mean new processes, new technologies, and new opportunities.

Between February 7-11, 2022, Mosaic surveyed 600 industry professionals about the use of technology in the homebuilding process. The results of its quarterly Homebuilding Tech Survey show homebuilding professionals are more readily willing to adopt new technologies.

Founded in 2017, Mosaic builds technology solutions to make residential construction more scalable. As a tech-enabled general contractor for the residential industry, Mosaic’s platform standardizes the construction process, allowing it to deliver places people love and create better communities.

The Q1 survey shows roughly 6 in 10 homebuilding professionals will use technology in 2022. More specifically, 69% of respondents said it is important to use technology services, such as software products, while 68% said they are likely to seek out new technology products. A whopping 70% of respondents said it is important to use technology products that create efficiencies, with 68% reporting they are likely to use the products.

Similarly, Mosaic’s initial Q4 2021 survey, demonstrated significant interest among homebuilders in the southwestern U.S. states of Arizona, Colorado, California, New Mexico, Texas, and Utah to embrace innovative technologies. This survey showed 83% of real estate industry professionals in the Southwestern U.S. are seeking out homebuilding technology solutions, with 72% of them likely, very likely, or extremely likely to use them in the next 12 months.

Founded by Salman Ahmad, the son of a self-taught contractor who grew up on jobsites, and Sep Kamvar, an entrepreneur who has pioneered human and machine interaction in both art and business, Mosaic recently closed on its Series B funding, backed by venture capital firms. The company also recently expanded its Arizona operations from Prescott and Flagstaff into Phoenix and Tucson. Mosaic plans to launch in California, Colorado, Texas, and additional markets later this year.

The bottomline is the use of technology is on the rise in homebuilding due to a confluence of factors such as the labor shortage, the proliferation of technology in all walks of life, and supply-chain disruptions, just to name a few. With this will come a change in process—but one that will ultimately leave the homebuilding industry more efficient than it has been in years past.
