The Red Hat Summit 2023 recently wrapped up in Boston, Mass. The company showcased its ecosystem work and offered sessions on automation, hybrid cloud, and edge. Plus, there were several announcements made at the event. The two-in-one event combined the Red Hat Summit with AnsibleFest, a previously separate event focused on Red Hat’s open-source Ansible Automation Platform. Red Hat is a provider not only of automation solutions but also hybrid cloud infrastructure, middleware, agile integration, cloud-native application development, and management solutions.
At the summit, the company announced the latest fruit from its partnership with ABB—early-access availability of ABB Ability Edgenius on Red Hat OpenShift and Red Hat Device Edge. Red Hat says the solution supports compute, connectivity, and high availability, and it will extend operational consistency for industrial use cases across edge and hybrid cloud environments. Why is this important? The companies say there’s a paradigm shift taking place in the industrial sector. More manufacturers are turning to open-source technologies to capture realtime data insights at the edge and to support more agile OT (operational technology) platform architecture.
Another news-worthy announcement from the event is a new generative AI (artificial intelligence) service for Ansible automation called Ansible Lightspeed with IBM Watson Code Assistant. Red Hat says Ansible Lightspeed will help drive “consistent and accurate automation adoption across an organization.” It’ll make task automation more accessible and take the burden of low-level tasks away from humans. Red Hat says it aims to build the experience on transparency, collaboration, and choice, prioritizing proper code source matching and giving upstream content contributors the ability to choose whether their work contributes to the model or not.
Red Hat also recently announced a strategic partnership with Kyndryl, an IT infrastructure services provider. The partnership aims to help customers embrace open, differentiated automation technologies and managed services. Red Hat says these technologies and managed services will help modernize core business applications and IT infrastructure. Based on the Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform, the Red Hat/Kyndryl services and solutions will automate critical workloads from the enterprise datacenter to the edge and across public clouds.
Finally, Red Hat recently unveiled new capabilities and enhancements across its portfolio of open hybrid cloud solutions. The goal, the company says, is to help accelerate enterprise adoption of edge compute architectures. It’ll help reduce complexity, accelerate deployment, and improve security. A couple of specific newly announced edge capabilities include the management of OpenShift edge topologies by Red Hat Advanced Cluster Management, as well as support for single-node OpenShift with OpenShift Data Foundation 4.10.
