Qualcomm Enables Digital Transformation with Aware Platform

Digital transformation is happening fast and furiously across sectors as more businesses realize the importance of harnessing connectivity and data to operate effectively, efficiently, and resiliently in today’s connected world. In industries like healthcare, manufacturing, and logistics and transportation, the ability to transform operations with the help of digital and automated technologies is nothing short of game changing. Interestingly, Fortune Business Insights has even reported the global digital transformation market is projected to grow from $1.79 trillion in 2022 to $6.78 trillion by 2029, at a CAGR of 20.9% in the forecast period. Time will really tell if that’s true.

A new platform from Qualcomm hopes support this market growth and accelerate digital transformation by reducing friction points for customers looking to stitch together IoT (Internet of Things) solutions in various categories.

Qualcomm says too many CEOs aren’t executing on digital strategies because of restrictions and challenges. For instance, they have legacy systems deployed or they’re facing a skills gap that prevents them from adopting digital strategies or leveraging them to their fullest potential. While digital transformation as a concept is becoming mainstream, implementation remains difficult. For instance, there are the daunting processes of digitizing infrastructure and managing data, navigating security, and breaking down silos within organizations. Many organizations don’t have the skillsets to handle these challenges all at once.

Mohammad Ansari, senior director of business development, 5G, and IoT for Qualcomm, says while the opportunity for digital transformation is massive, many hurdles remain. Enter Qualcomm Aware, a new platform Qualcomm says addresses the fragmented nature of digital transformation use cases by enabling developers through API-first architectures, user-friendly tools, and an ecosystem of hardware and software partners.

“Cloud platforms are primarily built by cloud developers, and the hardware platforms are primarily built by the embedded community, and we sit in the middle,” Ansari says. “We have watched both sides struggle in some sense to stitch (together) these solutions that are fragmented across technologies, across hardware, across use cases, and obviously across deployment models, and we take that and we then implement Qualcomm’s Aware to address all of those friction points. We make it easier for the hardware companies and the hardware partners of ours to connect to any cloud. In that sense, one of the basic principles of our architecture is to be friendly with all clouds but yet portable across clouds and across deployment models.”

Qualcomm Aware is an innovative IoT platform that empowers developers and enterprises to harness realtime information and data insights to accelerate their digital transformations. The platform offers differentiated services for managing assets that require critical, accurate, and time-sensitive decisionmaking. For use cases like cold chain distribution, utility asset monitoring, cargo shipment tracking, and warehouse and inventory management, Qualcomm says the new platform strives to provide a truly frictionless experience.

“You can have great technology, but if you don’t have a great experience in adopting it, then you still don’t make an impact,” said Ansari. By acting as the middleman, bringing the cloud community and the hardware community together, Qualcomm hopes its new Aware platform will make digital transformation that much more accessible.
