As ConEd likes to say, “Dig we must.” And if you are going to dig, especially in an urban area, better find out what’s under the surface. If you follow normal procedure, you call 8-1-1 and the utility will send out someone to check, often with ground penetrating radar.
In Pasco County Florida, that 8-1-1 call might be answered by responders from Find It First Locating Service. The service, in business since 1994, has the “Sunshine 8-1-1 Call Before You Dig” contract with the Withlacoochee River Electric Cooperative, a contract awarded originally to Find It First’s owner, Marie Mancuso.
Recently, Find It First was purchased by GeoPoint Surveying and integrated into its Subsurface Utility Locating division. Mancuso and eight additional employees will transition to the GeoPoint team to support the expanding project schedule and add breadth to the company’s experience with private utility locating and concrete scanning. The group will continue to work from their Hudson, Florida location, giving GeoPoint added geographic flexibility in the growing communities of Pasco County.
Find It First provides utility locators, construction professionals, environmental firms, and land surveyors a reliable, non-destructive method to locate subsurface targets prior to digging, trenching, conducting site assessments, and mapping. They also do ground penetrating radar work in concreted areas as well as soil.
One of the largest land surveying companies in the Southeast, GeoPoint Surveying, Inc. provides survey services including subsurface utility location, remote sensing/LiDAR, construction support and land development services, hydrographic surveys, and geographic information systems for residential, commercial, energy, industrial, and various other public and private projects. GeoPoint is licensed in Florida and Texas, and currently has six offices located in Tampa (2), Orlando, West Palm Beach, Panama City Beach and Hudson.
