All I Want for … Construction

Anyone else have the holidays on their mind lately? We know we do here at Constructech! It certainly is that time of year—family dinners, festive food, gift giving, volunteering, holiday parties. But, this time of year, we would like you to answer one question: all I want for construction is ….

We are also entering the time of year for goal setting, new year’s resolutions, and planning for the 2026 calendar year. With the rise of new technologies and the heavy proliferation of AI (artificial intelligence) in all walks of life, we think it is time to get clear with what we truly want for the construction industry in 2026 and beyond.

And, so, if we were handing Santa our wish list for construction for 2026, here are a few of the things we would most certainly put near the top of our Constructech wish list.

A safer jobsite: Imagine a jobsite where every worker goes home safe at the end of every day. Every worker! We can all agree this is a long road. Certainly, technology can help. Think sensors, wearables, AI, and other technologies that can help with more thoughtful site planning. Imagine preventing accidents before they even occur. But technology is only one part of the equation. We also need the right processes and procedures and the people to carry it out.

A skilled workforce: We are talking roughly half a million new skilled workers on top of the normal pace of hiring. Do you think Santa has that in his pack? Probably not. But this is more than just getting the people into the construction industry. It is about reskilling, upskilling, and equipping the next generation with the right tools to solve future demands.

More sustainable materials and methods: We all want a greener planet, right? You’ll likely answer yes, but the road to getting there isn’t easy. This shift will require embracing more innovation in materials, methods, and building. It will require a new way of thinking, and this will also require asking the harder questions and building with long-term resilience in mind. It’s a lofty dream, but it is one worth pursuing in the construction industry.

Better collaboration: Can’t we all just get along? If we are being honest, collaboration is the lifeblood of the AEC (architecture, engineering, and construction) industry. It is how work gets done and it ultimately leads to better outcomes, stronger partnerships, and more resilient projects. Technology can certainly help enable a more collaborative workflow, but it is more about aligning the people and the process and working toward one shared vision.

What would you put at the top of your list? What is your wish for construction in the year ahead? What’s one change you would champion in 2026?

Now, ask yourself, how can we all work together to make some of these wishes come true? It is certainly that time of year. Let’s start dreaming, together, for a better and brighter tomorrow.
