Not every infrastructure company has been waiting for governments to fund new programs. One, AECOM, has been starting projects, winning bids, and preparing for the future increase in business the carious infrastructure bills will provide.

The company is leading the effort to obtain the consents and permits for the Humber Zero project, which will contribute to the decarbonization of critical industry in the Humber region of Northern England, United Kingdom. The Humber Zero project will integrate CCS (carbon capture and storage) technology into units at the Phillips 66 Humber Refinery and VPI Immingham combined heat and power plant.

By 2030, the project is expected to capture up to eight million tons of CO2 (carbon dioxide) annually at source before it is transported via pipeline to permanent storage sites under the North Sea. Carbon capture will integrate specialist technology into the existing processing units and plants, including absorption techniques to capture and recover the CO2.

AECOM, supported by planning consultants DWD, will oversee the Humber Zero project through the permitting phase, preparing planning and permit applications, and supporting the environmental impact assessment. This work will include a detailed review of the impact the Humber Zero project may have on the local environment and community.

AECOM has also been awarded a four-year secondment contract with Ashghal, Qatar’s Public Works Authority. Over 200 AECOM professional staff members will work within Ashghal’s Roads Projects Department, providing management and oversight of Ashghal’s Local Roads and Drainage Program, which is responsible for developing infrastructure that raises the standard of living for all residents. AECOM’s secondees will support the further modernization and expansion of Qatar’s surface transport network, improving its accessibility, safety, and sustainability for all users.

Ashghal was established in 2004 to plan, deliver, and manage all infrastructure projects in Qatar. Since then, AECOM has supported the delivery of numerous transformational projects, including Orbital Highway, Lusail Expressway, and the MoTC Bus Infrastructure Program.

Expecting an increase in business world-wide, AECOM launched Digital AECOM, which combines the company’s global digital-focused consulting services, hosted services products to help clients accelerate their digital journeys and achieve better project outcomes, and digital tools to enhance its delivery of core engineering and design services. The branded offer leverages the strengths of the firm’s more than 2,000 integrated digital practitioners globally and proven AECOM technology to connect data, projects, and communities.

The major elements of the new service are:

Digital Consulting Services: Digital AECOM’s consulting services are delivered by subject matter experts across all regions and markets. These services are focused on assisting asset owner clients make their own digital transformation as they seek to unlock productivity improvements and innovation in their businesses. The company offers consulting services across four key areas: digital strategy, digital design and operations, data analytics and artificial intelligence, and digital solutions delivery.

Digital Products: Following several years of investment and successful prototyping, Digital AECOM is launching the first of its global software solutions that will augment and reimagine tits core design and infrastructure services including PlanEngage, a digital tool that streamlines the planning stakeholder engagement process by improving public participation and understanding of the planning process, and PlanSpend, which serves as a capital planning platform that helps clients prioritize and manage their most important projects.
