Success Stories: Bioplastics

A young innovator saw an opportunity to develop a new way for our environment to consume, compost, and bio-degrade plastic—and this invention could completely change how we manufacture products in the future.

26-year-old Dillon Baxter and 29-year-old Maxime Blandin have raised $17.5 million in capital for their company PlantSwitch, which includes one $5 million USDA grant to manufacture bioplastic raw material for multiple Fortune 500 companies including fast-food chains, pharmacy chains, and large cosmetics brands, just to name a few.

Baxter says the goal is to turn one billion pounds of plants into bioplastic material in the next decade. In order to do this, the company had to address both the price gap and the performance gap, which it has done. Keep an eye on this market in the days ahead.
