Companies in the technology arena are often more flexible than the old-line machinery-oriented firms. “Inter” is a byword: interoperability, interface, and interlocked technologies make each partner benefit. When a big job comes along, find a ready partner and bid.

Aberdeen, Scotland-based DDK Positioning is a case in point. DDK Positioning offers delivery of precise GNSS positioning services to a number of markets, including marine and offshore survey, construction, and IoT (Internet of Things). The GNSS (global navigation satellite systems) correction solution enables clients to precisely locate and track their assets globally.

While standard positioning accuracy through a system like GPS (global positioning system) is typically within 10 meters, by using the Iridium Communications network, DDK’s enhanced GPS accuracy service brings precise positioning of five centimeters or less.  This advanced level of accuracy is ideal for autonomous vehicles like UAVs, (unmanned arial vehicles) precision agriculture applications, offshore infrastructure projects such as windfarm construction, automotive applications like driverless cars, as well as a host of construction, mining, surveying, and IoT uses. Iridium appreciates a partner like DDK and has made an investment in the company.

Another investment was made by Topcon Positioning Systems. Topcon Positioning Group is headquartered in Livermore, Calif., and has been a supplier of core GNSS components to DDK Positioning. With the expansion and growing success of this business, specifically in the Marine sector, a closer cooperation will ensure optimal integration for the highest possible accuracies and performance in the most demanding applications. The partnership started in 2021 when Topcon Positioning Systems entered into an OEM (original-equipment manufacturer contract with DDK to supply GNSS hardware components.

Topcon OEM GNSS components are used by DDK Positioning to deliver their MAX services to Oceaneering Intl’s clients. Oceaneering conducted an extensive review of how it delivers positioning services to its clients and evaluated the significant advances made in communications infrastructure and services over recent years. Oceaneering has an exclusive agreement with DDK Positioning to be the provider of products and services to the offshore maritime market, delivered through the Iridium network and with Topcon OEM GNSS products.

With Topcon Positioning System’s extensive history in precise positioning, providing high performance and quality GNSS boards, antennas, and receivers to the OEM industry for over 20 years, the company is well-positioned to supply DDK Positioning with the hardware needed to support their clients globally. Working closely with DDK Positioning and Iridium was key to meet the requirements of Oceaneering and the maritime market.
