Top Tech Trend for Construction Unfolds

Candidly, if you thought 2024 was the year of gen AI (artificial intelligence), then you haven’t seen anything yet. Let’s take a look at what gen AI will ultimately mean for the construction industry in 2025 and beyond.

But, first, let’s review some of the numbers. According to Statista, the generative AI market size has already increased rapidly by 554% in the past four years, reaching $36 billion value in 2024. Yet, AltIndex.com suggests the generative AI market is set to skyrocket tenfold and reach a $356 billion value by 2030.

The bottomline is we can all expect continued growth for gen AI—but how exactly will this unfold and what impact can we anticipate this will have in the construction industry? These are the questions savvy contractors are asking themselves today.

Let’s consider a few key areas where gen AI can help in construction specifically. GlobalData suggests gen AI will continue to completely transform team collaboration platforms in 2025—a trend we saw begin to develop in 2025—due to rising adoption of agentic AI, transformation of contact center environments, disruption to gen AI feature pricing, and growing popularity of mobile solutions, just to name a few.

Gen AI can help the construction industry in so many ways. The options are truly limitless when we are talking about this technology. It can help with:

    1. Scheduling
    2. Estimating
    3. Budgeting
    4. Project planning
    5. Project visualization
    6. Project collaboration
    7. Project management
    8. Risk management
    9. Quality control
    10. Materials management

We are already seeing the trend spur on in 2025 with some big announcements from technology providers in the construction space. Let’s look at just two from earlier this month.

As one example, Nemetschek Group released AI Assistant at BAU 2025 in Munich, which is the organization’s first AI agent. In Archicad, this chatbot features product knowledge, industry insight, BIM (building information modeling) model queries, and AI Visualizer integration.

How can this help? AEC (architecture, engineering, and construction) professionals will be able to design projects through a chat interface, while also enhancing creativity and productivity.

The AI Assistant will also be available in BIMx for presentation and coordination. Later this year, the AI Assistant will be available for trial as part of Graphisoft’s public Technology Preview, with an official launch scheduled for the fall. Nemetschek Group will also expand to other group brands in 2025 and beyond.

As another instance, earlier this month, we saw another company unveil an AI platform for capital owners, enabling users to retrieve, collate, and make decisions using capital program data.
